Romantic Ivory, Blush, Burgundy and Gold Marine Wedding in Coronado, California

Angela and Alex’s soft, romantic wedding in sunny Coronado, California featured an ivory and blush color palette with burgundy and gold accents and abundant florals and candles.

Despite growing up in the same hometown, the bride and groom did not meet until after the groom departed for college. “We had mutual friends, and one day he took a chance and messaged me on my birthday,” the bride explained. “Eventually we made plans to meet the next time he was in town visiting. We talked at a coffee shop for hours – the staff finally had to kick us out, so they could close. Safe to say there was an instant connection!”

After graduation, the couple endured a long-distance relationship as Alex began Officer Candidate School for the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia and Angela stayed in San Diego, California for her job. “I flew out to visit him once, but other than had to maintain our relationship through texts, phone calls, and FaceTime. It was the hardest period of my life, but I knew I had to be strong for the both of us.”

Unbeknownst to Angela, Alex was planning a big surprise: one that would more than make up for the difficult days spent apart. One month prior to Alex’s graduation, Angela was invited by a friend to dinner in La Jolla. “We arrived at the gazebo at Windansea beach in La Jolla and I had only been watching the waves for a moment when I felt arms around me and a voice in my ear. To my surprise, it was Alex! Before I fully registered he was there, he was down on one knee presenting me with a beautiful ring and asking me to be his wife. I couldn’t say yes fast enough.”

What was your favorite moment of your wedding?
My absolute favorite (there were so many!) was probably our vows. We wrote our own, so they were very personal, and it was so special to say them in front of everyone. When we watched our footage later we realized our ceremony made the majority of our guests cry!

One of my other favorite moments, and the most unique aspect of our wedding, was that our photo and video team provided a same-day edit of our wedding day footage shown during the reception. It was so well done, and everyone loved it.

What advice would you give to other military brides?
This is advice for all brides in general: don’t let anyone try to make you feel bad about decisions for your day! Because it is your day. Whatever makes you happy, go for it! Whether that be the guest list, food, date, location, etc. Choose what is right for you and your future spouse. Also, don’t stress out over the little things. What happens will happen and your day will still be amazing.

As for military spouses, a lot of us are planning weddings from states away. If you are able, hire a wedding planner or at the very least a day-of coordinator! Your day will be much less stressful if you do. Also, if you are planning a long-distance wedding, I recommend not trying to DIY too much. It can get very difficult to transport everything that you need.
